KIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato, Oct. 2 (PIA) -- Flood prone towns in North Cotabato are set to receive flood early warning devices from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Engineer Noli Villaruz, Action and Warning Officer of the Provincial Governor's Office-Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Division (PGO-DRRMD), said that the early warning devices (EWD) are intended to lessen the effects of floods in communities along flood-prone rivers.
According to Villacruz, the EWDs composed of electric siren, LED beacon, controller box, and solar panel, will be installed in Pigcawayan, Kabacan, Pikit, M'lang and Tulunan.
These EWDs will alert residents in low-lying areas of impending flood, thereby alerting communities to evacuate to safer areas.
Mercy Foronda, head of the PGO-DRRMD, noted that the EWDs are critical in saving lives and properties during disastrous incidents like flash floods.
Foronda emphasized that this collaboration between the DOST and the provincial government are aligned with the "Serbisyong Totoo" advocacy of Governor Emmylou "Lala" Taliño-Mendoza which, among others, aims to make sure that communities are safe and resilient to calamities.
