The Department of Science and Technology's (DOST) RxBox1000 Project Regional Management Team, in cooperation with the Department of Health (DOH) Region 1 and University of the Philippines- National TeleHealth Center (UP-NTHC), oriented the region's health officers on the RxBox device and project on January 11, 2018 at Oasis Country Resort, San Fernando City La Union.
The RxBox1000 project introduces RxBox to better equip the healthcare workers in the grass roots with technologies developed by our very own Filipino scientists; technologies that would aid in providing better access to life saving health services in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas nationwide; and improve delivery of government health services.
The RxBox is an electronic diagnostic device in a box which includes a blood pressure monitor (sphygmomanometer), pulse oximeter, electrocardiogram, fetal heart monitor, maternal tocometer and temperature sensor that can be used for diagnostic procedures and capable of capturing and sending patient information over a distance whenever the patient needs to be reffered to a specialist.
The one-day activity, led by DOST Regional Director Armando Q. Ganal, was participated by the presidents of the Association of Municipal Health Officers' of the Philippines from the four provinces namely, Dr. Cesar Carullo from Ilocos Norte, Dr. Aly John Lopez from Ilocos Sur, Dr. Annabelle Pada of La Union and a representative of Dr. Lilibeth Fermin from Pangasinan. Provincial DOH Officers and Provincial Health Officers from the four (4) provinces also joined the orientation.
The participants learned from Mr. Flor Crespo De Peralta, Regional Training Coordinator of the Cordillera Administrative Region, how the RxBox works, its functions and compositions. Ms. Joan Gonzales, iClinicSys Coordinator of the DOH Region 1, taught the health officers on how iClinicSys, as an Electronic Medical Record, works together with the RxBox device. Mr. Michael John C. Macquiling of the DOST 1 likewise informed the participants of the line-up of activities of RXBox in the region in 2018.
An open discussion was also conducted to gather participants' insights and suggestions for the success of the project.
Dr. Edwin Sanchez, Assistant Regional Director of DOH1 said that the project is beneficial for the promotion of quality health care in the region.
