DOST 02 to support Gawaygaway-yan Festival of Cauayan City

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 02 through its Regional Director Sancho A. Mabborang has committed to support the upcoming Gawaygaway-yan Festival in Cauayan City, Isabela as part of its cityhood anniversary.

The two-week celebration of the festival this coming April 2, 2018 marks the city's bountiful livelihood and good harvest. It also recognizes the city's cultural diversity and the undying ancestry of Cauayeños.

During the meeting held at Cauayan City Hall, RD Mabborang said that the Science Department will facilitate science and technology activities in the upcoming festival to promote and increase the interest of people regarding science and technology.

"Since Cauayan City has embraced the framework of SMARTER City, DOST Region 02 will help achieve this through Science and Technology", said the Regional Director.

There will be a science explorer bus to encourage people, especially students, to take interest to science and technology along with a science exhibit to showcase the Cauayan City's food and non-food products. Also, a robotics competition with a kawayan concept will be held to test the participants' innovative minds.

Aside from these activities, the Department will be partnering with the Department of Education Region 02 in conducting the poster making competition for primary and secondary schools during the festival.

Further, DOST Region 02 will be launching the first Regional Standards and Testing Unit, a Satellite Laboratory, and a Food innovation Laboratory in the province of Isabela.

To ensure a proper and a well-organized conduct of these activities, a committee on science and technology was assigned to Isabela State University (ISU) Cauayan and the Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) Isabela.

Meanwhile, Cauayan City Mayor Bernard Faustino Dy expressed his gratitude to DOST for incorporating innovations brought by Science and Technology to the festival. "Thank you for putting S&T in our festival this year," he said.

ISU President Ricmar P. Aquino and staff, and LGU Cauayan representatives were also present in the said meeting. #
