ZAMBOANGA CITY, April 17 (PIA) ¬Ė RTK Incorporated, an IT team composed of students from the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) won in the recently-concluded 5th Philippine Startup Challenge, a nationwide competition of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
Engr. Heidee Soliman, RTK¬ís adviser said the winning IT solution pitched by the group is called ReTrack, which is ¬ďa tracking system designed to give commuters higher chances of riding jeepneys.¬Ē
The team is composed of WMSU students Ivan Macaso, Lemual Bigay and Ralph Yosores. Soliman said the group had undergone workshops and several trainings to ¬ďdevelop and improve the product,¬Ē while at the same time juggling with their academics.
The team, on the top four of the winning list received Php200,000 in prototype development funding from the Department of Science and Technology¬ís Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD).
Team Victorem of St. Louis University Baguio finished as the grand winner while teams from Far Easter University, Davao Central College, and University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines complete the top five. The contest was held in Iloilo City last April 5, 2019.¬†
