Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, DOST Undersecretary for Research and Development, delivers her message as the keynote speaker during the opening ceremony of the 1st International Conference in Science and Technology and Mathematics, with the theme Sustaining Science and Mathematics Research and Innovation, which was held on April 11, 2019 at MSU-IIT Gymnasium, Iligan City.
During her speech, she acknowledged teaching as the very first way of sustaining science and math research and innovation, and emphasized the need to work towards getting companies attracted to where graduates are produced.
The only way that we can sustain science, technology and innovation is by investing in human resource development and in Harmonized National Research and Development Agenda (HNRDA) with corresponding budget fostering science, technology and innovation culture, investing in science, technology and innovation infrastructure, establishing and promoting STI Hubs, and building an innovation ecosystem. At the end of the day it is always good to have science and math teachers who adjust to the learning modes of our students, Usec Guevara said.
The said event was participated by 65 universities and schools, with an aim to provide a platform for academics, scientist and researchers to share and discuss theoretical and experimental solutions to societal problems related to science and math.
