DAET, Camarines Norte, June 11 (PIA) A total of 57 passers of the Science and Technology Undergraduate Scholarships program joined the orientation conducted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
This was discussed by Marilou J. Belgado, DOST science and research specialist during the radio program Talakayan sa PIA on Air over DWCN-FM Radyo Pilipinas held Monday, June 10 here.
Belgado said that students also signed the contract which stipulates the coverage, benefits, including the grades that they will maintain as well as other guidelines of the DOST.
The S&T Undergraduate Scholarships Program aims to stimulate and entice talented Filipino youths to pursue lifetime productive careers in science and technology.

Scholars who are studying in private schools will receive P40,000.00 tuition fee per year while those from state universities will receive P10,000 book allowance per year; P1,000 MS/PE during first semester for first year only; group and accident insurance premium, transportation allowance round trip economy for those studying outside home province; P7,000 monthly living allowance; P1,000 graduation clothing allowance and summer allowance if required in the curriculum.
She also announced that those interested to take the exam who are now grade 12 of Senior High School can download the application at www.sei.gov.ph or at facebook account Stsd sei. Deadline of application is on Sept. 6. Examinations will be on Oct. 20, 2019.
Another scholarship of the DOST is the Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) program which aims to finance the education of talented and deserving students in their third year of college and who are pursuing degree programs in the areas of science and technology.
Both scholarships aim to ensure a steady and adequate supply of qualified S&T human resources who can steer the country towards national progress.
Belgado said that only seven (7) took the exam last June 2. She urged those incoming 3rd year students next school year to avail of the said program. Application and examination dates will be announced later. (RBManlangit, PIA5/Camarines Norte)
