PhilSci accepts applications for SY 2020-2021

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato, July 16 (PIA) – The Philippine Science High School (PSHS) is now accepting applications for the National Competitive Examination (NCE) for incoming Grade 7 students for school year 2020-2021.

Qualified Grade 6 students who are interested in joining the PSHS as a government scholar have only until September 13, 2019 to file their application for the NCE, Dr. Chuchi Gargarena, director of PSHS-SOCCSKSARGEN Region Campus (PSHS-SRC), announced in a letter sent to Philippine Information Agency.

NCE is the only admission test a student must pass to gain admission to any of the schools of the PSHS system.

This year, the NCE will be on October 19, 2019.

In Region 12, Gargarena said, “application may be submitted personally or through courier of PHRC-SRC, Koronadal City or to the Department of Science and Technology regional office or any of the provincial S & T offices.”

On its website, PSHS noted that for a Grade 6 elementary pupil to qualify, he or she must  have a final grade of 85% or better in science and mathematics, evidenced by the student’s report card. If the student's grades in science or math are below 85%, then, he/she must provide evidence that he/she belongs to the upper 10% of the  batch; be a Filipino citizen with no pending or approved application as immigrant to any foreign country; be born on or after August 1, 2005; have at least a satisfactory rating (or its equivalent) in his/her character rating in his/her report card (SY 2018 - 2019); not have taken the PSHS NCE previously;  and preferably, be in good health and fit to undergo a rigorous academic program.

Application requirements include two copies of fully accomplished application form, two identical recent 1x1 ID pictures, test fee of P100 for students from private schools, certified true copy of report card for SY 2018-2019; and a certification or proof that the applicant belongs to the upper 10% of the batch, if the child’s final grades in math and science are below 85%.

All students of PSHS are government scholars and receive monthly stipend in addition to free tuition and free loan of books.

PSHS has 16 campuses, namely: Diliman, Southern Mindanao, Cagayan Valley, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Central Luzon, Central Mindanao, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, Ilocos Region, Central Visayas, Caraga Region, Mimaropa Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Calabarzon Region, and SOCCSKSARGEN.

PSHS-SOCCSKSARGEN Region Campus is located in Barangay Paraiso, Koronadal City. Each school year, this campus accepts only 90 new entrants to fill in three Grade 7 sections. Academic year begins in August. (DED-PIA 12)
