CEBU CITY, July 25 (PIA)--Siquijodnons will be treated to an exciting Science and TechnologyÂ–related events as the Department of Science and Technology, Region 7 (DOST)-7 celebrates the 2019 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) in Siquijor Province next month.
The three-day regional event will be held from August 15 to 18, 2019 at the Capitol Square in Siquijor, Siquijor with the theme Â“Science for the People: Enabling Technologies for Sustainable Development.Â”
RSTW is part of the nationwide observance of the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) as mandated by Presidential Proclamation 2214 and as amended by Republic Act 169 of 1993, said DOST-7 Regional Director Engr. Edilberto Paradela.
According to Paradela, RA 169 was passed to provide an opportunity to Â“focus regional and national attention on the contribution of science and technology to national development. The law was likewise passed to provide an opportunity to give recognition and appreciation to outstanding accomplishments and personalities in science and technology.
Highlighting the activities lined up for the occasion are fora, conferences, dialogues, lectures discussions, exhibits and a host of other interesting science, technology and innovation activities, added Paradela.
The exhibits will have eight clusters and they are: Food Security Energy and Environment; Aging Society, Health and Medical Care; Science and Technology Human Resource Development; Equity and Growth in the Countryside; Biodiversity and Sustainable Biological Resources; Cities, History and Cultural Heritage; Resilience and Innovation; and International Linkages.
DOST-7 invites the general public to become part of the annual activity aim at promoting enterprise development and community empowerment through enhancement of public awareness. Entrance to the venue is free and the exhibits are open to the public, said Assistant Provincial Science and Technology Director, DOST Siquijor. (jsme/PIA7-Cebu)
