ECC, DOST promote Employees’ Compensation Program among MSMEs

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Feb. 11 (PIA) – The Employees’ Compensation Commission-Regional Extension Unit 1 (ECC-REU1) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Pangasinan teamed up to strengthen the promotion of the Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP) among the food and non-food DOST-assisted micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the province.

ECC Regional Officer Dexter Dupagan conducted two consecutive in-house seminars to the owners of the food and non-food DOST-assisted establishments in Pangasinan last January 31 and February 7 to ensure that they are informed of their rights, benefits and privileges under the ECP.

At least 50 participants attended the Green Productivity Training cum EmployeesÂ’ Compensation Program Seminar held at the El Jardine Restaurant here.

During the orientations, three components of the ECP were discussed such as prevention, compensation, and rehabilitation; and the 3Es – Equalize, Enhance and Expand strategies in response to the challenges facing the ECP.

Dupagan emphasized to the owners the importance of building and sustaining a culture of safety and healthful environment in their workplaces.

He also informed the employers of their obligations on paying EC contribution and maintaining an EC logbook in their company.

Likewise, he also gave an overview of the benefits and services that owners of MSMEs can avail under the ECP as they are now covered of the program as self-employed.

The ECP is a social insurance program designed to provide workers with sickness benefits, medical, and other benefits.

It also provides rehabilitation services for qualified persons with work-related disabilities.

ECC, a government corporation attached to the Department of Labor and Employment for policy coordination and guidance, is mandated to provide meaningful and appropriate compensation to workers and their dependents in the event of work-related contingencies such as sickness, injury, disability or death.
